| Music Nova Scotia was founded in 1989. A volunteer Board of Directors ran the association until 1998 when we opened our first office and hired one full-time employee.

1999 Invited to sit on FACTOR's National Advisory Board Retained as FACTOR's Regional Evaluation Coordinators for the Atlantic Became a member of the regional advisory committee to the East Coast Music Association (now defunct) Requested to be the regional representative for CARAS Published the 1999 Music Industry Impact Study
2000 Committed to an annual presentation of Makin' Music in Cape Breton The Acadian Musical Revue began (completed in 2006)
2001 Published the Music Sector Strategy
2002/2003 Nova Scotia Department of Tourism, Culture and Heritage committed $1 million over three years First Canadian Music Week showcase (branded as The Tiki)
2004 Opened the doors to the Ardenne Resource Centre (ARC) First showcase programmed at East Coast Music Awards and Conference Inaugural year of the Export Development Program For Music
2005 Began co-production of DRUM! First Bringin' It Home tour
2006 Re-branded Music Industry Association of Nova Scotia as Music Nova Scotia Printed the first Music Nova Scotia Needs Assessment Produced the Keepin' It Live! Study Juno Awards/Music in Schools
2007 Created and published the new Music Sector Strategy Nova Scotia Music Week doubled in attendance/delegates to 500 registered Continued to participate in the Milwaukee Irish Fest in partnership with Nova Scotia Department of Tourism, Culture and Heritage. Trade mission to Belfast, Ireland for operation Musician-ship in partnership with Nova Scotia Department of Tourism, Culture and Heritage. Celtic Music Buyers Symposium in CB (42 Celtic Music Buyers) CMW Showcase at the Rivoli sold out.
2008 Music Nova Scotia Stage at ECMA set new records for attendance showcasing NS talent to over 1500 fans and delegates. Made key contacts in Iceland after successful fact-finding mission. Key Icelandic contacts travel to NSMW 08 and buy NS talent for festivals in Reykjavik. Nova Scotia Music Week 08 brings in record number of NS artists to Pictou County (600 delegates) Record amount of corporate sponsorship investment made to NSMW 08 Launch and rebranding of a new and improved Bringin it Home Community Presenters Assistance Program NSMW 08 initiates Bringin it Home Buyers program which saw 28 buyers from NS community presenters travel to NSMW to block book talent We have seen incredible returns with over 30 BIH shows booked to date as a result. 2009 Music Nova Scotia travelled to UK and Germany to explore new opportunities for our members as a result of the Icelandic investment. This trip opened up new markets for NS artists and resulted in great additions to both the buyers program and educational conference of Molson Canadian Nova Scotia Music Week 2009 To date in 2009, we operate with six essential staff members, two contract employees, 15 board members, assist over 1000 members, and operate or administer multiple annual projects
