Gianna Lauren
Gianna Lauren
ARTIST OVERVIEW Gianna Lauren is a project of atmosphere, warm guitar tones and voice. She is a performer of the graceful kind. Her onstage aura and the charisma behind her recordings are impossible to forget. Having performed in music venues, living rooms, and train cars across Canada, with much support from campus-community radio, CBC Radio 3, and online music critics, people are following Gianna Lauren. After a spontaneous move eastward, she writes, records, and releases her sophomore album, Some Move Closer, Some Move On (October 2010) in Nova Scotia. You will never hear another album like this. Adaptation, longing, and displacement are reflections heard throughout the new songs. Melodies breathe as if they pulse, sharing space with many layers of warming instrumentation and vocals. Sonically, Lauren and co-producer Daniel Ledwell (Jenn Grant, In-Flight Safety) guide the listener through a range of sounds and musical touchstones. Ambient pop-rock keeps company with softer, more poignant material. From the depths of the capacious "Standstill" to the stripped-down "Night Times" every song is a likable surprise. And somehow, an acapella hymn recorded in an abandoned warehouse blends seamlessly into the gypsy-jazz track that concludes the album. Gianna Lauren is Forward Music Group?s first female artist and first singer-songwriter to join the label. also ? SELECTED PRESS "...one of the season's most intriguing albums." - Toronto Star "Such care and dedication was put into this record that I can't give this (review) anything less than an excellent. I may also have found an album worthy to be on my best-of-the-year list." - Grayowl Point "Some Move Closer, Some Move On is a slow burning, moody journey filled with lonely spaces, surprising tempo changes and tender warmth. Spare arrangements draw you close, but Lauren is inventive and the subtle transitions she offers up keep the record shifting and the listener engaged." ? Herohill ?...Lauren is a bit of a mystery. She's part wallflower, part rocker, all intrigue. With a sound akin to Mary Timony, Lauren's poetic yet gritty. She trades the acoustic guitar for an electric, infuses strings and soft vocals, as if she's whispering secrets into the wind." - The Coast "...songs are writ large with atmospheric sounds that give a heavy mood to observations on life and love in the time of technology." - Ottawa Citizen "Gianna?s songs are delicate and somber, yet hopeful. She channels the spirits of early Joni Mitchell and contemporary P.J. Harvey." - Earshot Online BACKGROUND Music Genre ? folk, indie, rock, shoegaze Audience Market ? females and males 15 to 55 with a musical interest in the likes of Kathleen Edwards, Julie Doiron, Joni Mitchell, Sarah McLachlan RADIO & VIDEO - Gianna Lauren consistently ranks highly with ariplay on college radio and CBC Watch a video: ? ?Standstill? http://www.southernsouls.ca/giannalauren Watch a live song: ? ?Be Nice? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bYsn0rPqkJg Ottawa, Ontario ?
