Music Nova Scotia Music Award Nominees and Biggest Gala Awards Show Lineup Announced
Joel Plaskett, Classified, In-Flight Safety, Dave Carroll, Brian Borcherdt, Grand Dérangement, The Tom Fun Orchestra and Charlie A’Court to perform, Bruce Guthro and Jimmy Flynn host Molson Canadian Nova Scotia Music Week’s signature event
September 4, 2009 Halifax, Nova Scotia – Bruce Guthro and Jimmy Flynn will host the Music Nova Scotia Gala Awards Show in Yarmouth during Molson Canadian Nova Scotia Music Week, November 5-8. A wide range of talented Nova Scotia artists will perform on the show including Brian Borcherdt, Joel Plaskett, Classified, Grand Dérangement, In-Flight Safety, The Tom Fun Orchestra, Dave Carroll, Charlie A'Court, winners of the underage Yarmouth Exhibition Battle of the Bands The Holdup and Cape Breton fiddlers Dawn and Margie Beaton, Anna Ludlow, Colin Grant, Chrissy Crowley and Gillian Boucher, making the 2009 production the largest in thirteen years of music week festivities.
Molson Canadian Nova Scotia Music Week is thrilled to announce the Music Nova Scotia Music Award nominees. At the front of the pack, Joel Plaskett and In-Flight Safety are up for six award nominations each. Both are nominated for the Bell Aliant Entertainer of the Year and SOCAN Songwriter of the Year. Plaskett’s triple release Three is nominated for Album of the Year, Male Artist Recording and Pop/Rock Artist/Group Recording. His video Through & Through & Through received a nomination for Video of the Year. In-Flight Safety’s We Are An Empire, My Dear is also nominated for Album of the Year and is in the running for Group Recording and Alternative Artist/Group Recording. The video Model Homes is also nominated in the Video of the Year category.
Ruby Jean and the Thoughtful Bees have four award nominations for their self-titled album Ruby Jean and the Thoughtful Bees in the New Artist/Group Recording, Group Recording, Alternative Artist/Group Recording and Jazz/Electro/Acoustic Artist/Group Recording categories. Dave Carroll also receives four nominations and is in the running for SOCAN Songwriter of the Year and Digital Artist of the Year. His album Perfect Blue is nominated for Male Artist Recording and the video United Breaks Guitars is up for Video of the Year.
Gypsophilia, Charlie A’Court, Andrew Hunter & The Gatherers and Shelter With Thieves are all nominated for three awards.
Gypsophilia earned nods for Album of the Year, Group Recording of the Year and Jazz/Electro/Acoustic Artist/Group Recording of the Year for Sa-ba-da-OW!.
Charlie A’Court is nominated for his latest recording Live at the Marigold in the Blues Artist/Group Recording and Male Artist Recording categories. He is also nominated for the Bell Aliant Entertainer of the Year.
Andrew Hunter & The Gatherers are nominated for their debut, self-titled EP for New Artist/Group Recording, and Pop/Rock Artist/Group Recording. Andrew Hunter is nominated for SOCAN Songwriter of the Year.
Shelter With Thieves receives two award nominations in Group Recording and Loud Artist/Group Recording for their album Confessions of a Toxic Generation. The group earned a third nomination in the Video of the Year category for their video “Nursery Crimes”.

Award nominees are selected by juries of industry professionals from the Music Nova Scotia membership. Voting will begin on Thursday, September 17 and electronic notices will be sent to all eligible members of Music Nova Scotia, who will vote on the award winners. Industry award nominations, information about the educational conference and delegates passes will be announced in the coming weeks.
The awards will be handed out at the Music Nova Scotia Music and Industry Awards Brunch, which will be held on Sunday, November 8 at the Rodd Grand Yarmouth beginning at 11:00am. Awards will also be handed out at the Music Nova Scotia Gala Awards Show, which will take place at the Yarmouth Mariners Centre on Sunday, November 8 beginning at 8:00pm.
