The Tiki Strikes BackMusic Nova Scotia, in partnership with Delta Hotels, this year presented The Tiki Strikes Back at Toronto’s landmark hotspot Rivoli Lounge on Saturday, March 14, 2009. The private event, now in its sixth year, took place during Canadian Music Week and showcased Nova Scotia’s best and brightest stars to a room full of international industry professionals. “We were really looking forward to wowing the Canada Music Week delegates with our usual talent and hospitality,” says Mike Campbell, The Tiki Strikes Back Event Chair. “This event started off as a nice little acoustic showcase for our frontline singer/songwriters and has quite rightly grown into one of the most popular events of the whole festival.” Nine acts took the stage at this year’s event; an award-winning cast comprised of Andrew Hunter, Christina Martin, Ryan MacGrath, Amelia Curran, Jon Mckiel, Jimmy Rankin, Alert The Medic, Share and David Marsh and True Love Rules. “Luckily, we’re never at a loss for acts to put on the stage and that’s why the industry has continued to embrace this event; you can feed folks but they wouldn’t come back, year after year, if the talent wasn’t up to scratch,” says Campbell. “This year’s roster continued in the tradition of past performers like Joel Plaskett, Matt Mays and The Trews.” Music Nova Scotia gratefully acknowledges the contributions of the following sponsors and industry partners: Nova Scotia Department of Tourism, Culture and Heritage, Delta Hotels, Alexander Keith’s and Corby. “This event is a great example of great talent being supported by both government and corporate partnerships,” says Music Nova Scotia executive director Scott Long. “Our partnership with the Delta Hotels has allowed us to pull off this event on a grand scale, with a seafood feast for our guests and accommodations for our artists.
