Speaker: Steve Mayall – Music Ally -------------------------------------------------------------------- Keynote Interview Forget the relationship between the artist and their manager, or the artist and the label; the most important relationship in music is between the artist and the fans. How do you cultivate, manage, and keep that connection close and special, irrespective of size? Interviewee: Benji Rogers – Pledge Music -------------------------------------------------------------------- Where’s the Money? Record sales aren’t enough anymore. Should artists expect their main source of income to be live? Should they give recorded music away to encourage live sales? What about merch, Sync, or money from brand partnerships? This panel aims to get to the heart of the debate and uncover where the money lies. Panelist: Gary McClarnan - Sparklestreet -------------------------------------------------------------------- Lunch 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM -------------------------------------------------------------------- What’s Next in Social Media? We will look at all aspects of their campaigns and look at what has worked, and what didn’t work for these artists. Having heard the panels and interviews during the day, and combined with the case studies we will look at ways that the audience can make their own digital marketing strategy. Here is your opportunity to “pitch” your music/showcase to music buyers attending Molson Canadian Nova Scotia Music Week 2010 Yarmouth. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Keynote Presentation: The New Economics of Music ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Roundtable Discussion: Where Do We Go From Here? As recorded revenues continue to shrink the traditional roles in the music industry are becoming more and more fluid. Should labels look at moving into management? Should managers set up a label? Do the direct to fan marketing platforms like Topspin empower the artist & manager at the expense of the label? Or do they give more room to grow the role of both parties? With more diversified, less concentrated revenue streams is the challenge of management becoming too much to handle? How can an artist audit everything? What do artists starting from scratch do? At what stage does it make sense to sign? And when do you have enough fans to go it alone? The session will also focus on broader issues such as streaming versus downloading. Cloud Music – the opportunities and threats and how to monetize it. Subscription services: how much can you expect digital to be a part of your revenue stream and what does that mean for the artist? A high level roundtable discussion with all foreign delegates and selects invitees. All are welcome to sit in! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- LUNCH BREAK 11:30 AM – 12:25 PM ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Triple Assault New Directions Panel Attack! - Fans, Bands and Brands ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Panel 1: Synch & Games Video games generate more money than the film industry; and for an increasing number of people they already occupy more wallet-share than music and DVDs combined. Shouldn’t the music business get on board? What types of music and games partnership are possible? And how do you get your music into a game? Then of course there are standard film and ad syncs. How important are they, both in terms of money and profile? What can you do to increase your chances of a sync? How much can you expect to make from them? And if you do score a sync what steps should you take to maximise the exposure you get from it? Panelist: Steve Savoca - Domino Record Co. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Panel 2: Live Music Ways to make money from live other than gate revenue. What do promoters look for in an act? How can you improve your chances of getting booked? How to apply for funds / what’s available. Touring oversees – the costs, logistics and benefits. Getting on the festival circuit vs the live circuit. When do you play for free? Panelist: Marigny Lee – Central Parks Summerstage/New York City Parks Foundation -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
