Nova Scotia is the Spotlight Nation at World’s Largest Winter Music FestivalLine up features Joel Plaskett, The Tom Fun Orchestra, Amelia Curran, Old Man Luedecke, The Beaton Sisters, and Gillian Boucher at Glasgow, Scotland’s Celtic Connections Festival Halifax, Nova Scotia - Some of Nova Scotia’s most established artists will be in Glasgow, Scotland this weekend performing at the world renowned Celtic Connections festival. In fact, Nova Scotia is front row centre as the featured international partner at this year’s Showcase Scotland event. Showcase Scotland is a delegate based music buyers program that will put Nova Scotian performers in front of 200 agents, venues, and festival buyers during the Celtic Connections festival. Representing Nova Scotia on the Showcase Scotland stage will be Joel Plaskett, The Tom Fun Orchestra, Amelia Curran, Old Man Luedecke, The Beaton Sisters, and Gillian Boucher. Other Nova Scotians accompanying the featured performers include the Colin Grant Band, Rose Cousins, and Kev Corbett. Behind the scenes, Nova Scotia will be well represented by various project partners participating in a music trade mission including provincial music industry association Music Nova Scotia. “Showcase Scotland is a very important and strategic project for our artists.” says Scott Long, Executive Director of Music Nova Scotia. “This showcasing and marketing focus will result in work for Nova Scotian musicians in various territories around the world.” Music Nova Scotia has been involved in the planning of the focus since April, creating a website for festival organizers and attending buyers, designing ads, coordinating marketing collateral, and providing pre-event logistical support for artists. Music Nova Scotia will also be on the ground during the event promoting the artists and recruiting music buyers for Nova Scotia Music Week 2011. “Not only are we providing logistical and marketing support for the artists and their teams but Music Nova Scotia is also supporting many of those attending financially through the Export Development Program for Music,” comments Long. The Export Development Program awards funding to export ready and exporting musicians from Nova Scotia to assist them with tour, travel, and marketing expenses at international showcasing events that have potential to create work and increase artist revenues. The program funds a variety of other eligible activities and awards $300,000.00 in support to artists from Nova Scotia annually. The goal of the Export Development Fund is to ensure that the music industry in Nova Scotia continues to grow and develop into a sustainable and profitable industry. Music Nova Scotia realizes this steady succession of investments will allow beneficiaries to react more quickly to business opportunities in their markets giving Nova Scotian musicians and industry professionals more frequent work outside of Nova Scotia. The Nova Scotia spotlight at Celtic Connections is the result of a dynamic partnership between the Nova Scotia Department of Communities, Culture and Heritage, Music Nova Scotia, Celtic Colours International Festival, Enterprise Cape Breton Corporation, and the Cape Breton Music Industry Cooperative. -------------------------------------- Artist Profiles and schedule:Nova Scotia Kitchen Party: January 29, 3pm @ 185 Bath Street, GlasgowAmelia Curran - performing January 29, 7:30pm @ St. Andrews in the square Colin Grant - performing with The Tom Fun Orchestra The Beaton Sisters - performing January 28, 8:00pm @ Tron Theatre Gillian Boucher - performing January 27, 7:30pm @ 02 ABC Joel Plaskett - performing January 30, 8:00pm @ The Old Fruit Market Old Man Luedecke - performing January 29, 9:00pm @ The Old Fruit Market The Tom Fun Orchestra - performing January 29, 7:30pm @ 02 ABC
