The Stogies
The Stogies
Over the past three years, The Stogies have been grinding in the trenches of the east coast rock scene. Playing as many shows as they could survive has gained them notoriety as one of Halifax’s most ruthless groups boasting a real Rock N’ Roll show. Their music draws inspiration from all points along the rock n’ roll bloodline; from 60’s icons such as The Rolling Stones to 90’s and 00’s acts like The Black Crowes and The White Stripes. The band has picked up steam over the past year playing more shows than the last two years combined, including Riverfest ’10 where it won the People’s Choice Award for best band. In November 2010, the Stogies showcased for the first time at Molson Canadian Nova Scotia Music Week. Since then, the band has successfully completed three tours of Ontario, including gigs at the Legendary Horseshoe Tavern. This experience provided the confidence that carried the band through a slew of maritime pub shows and festivals including a slot at Alderney Landing for the Q104 Keith’s Natal Day Festival (Carmen Townsend, Steven Page, The Town Heroes) and a sold out showcase at Nova Scotia Music Week 2011. Furthermore, The Stogies have just released their debut EP ‘No Couth, No Class, No Nothin’. The record was tracked at Fortress Studios under the direction of Troy Arseneault (producer) and Brad Stevens (engineer) and was mixed at the Heartbreak Hotel with Mike MacDougall (producer/engineer). The record was released August 19th at The Seahorse Tavern in Halifax, Nova Scotia and has been gaining rave reviews all across the board. “I wish every artist in Canada were as remotely talented, hip, clever and succinct as the Stogies. This is rock and roll the way it should STILL be played” Cashbox Canada Magazine “This “Rock N Roll’s A Zombie” is sure to be an anthem within Halifax and one of the many reasons you should get this release.” - Visionthenet.com “No Couth No Class No Nothin’ is an album that belongs in everyone’s collection.” Noisography.com The first single “Any Old Friends”, was released to radio in August 2011. It has been featured on numerous new music radio shows including IndieCan (XM The Verge), Radio Active (CFWF The Wolf Regina), Fresh Tracks (CHWF The Wolf Nanaimo BC), Off the Grid (CJSD Thunder Bay ON), Route 104 (Q104 Halifax) and many more. The single was also featured as the Producer’s Pick on the nationally syndicated “East Coast Countdown”. Along with some regular rotation from community stations in NS (CJLS The Wave, Yarmouth), NB (CHQC 105.7 Saint John) and ON (CKXS The New 99.1, Wallaceburg), the boys are hoping the buzz will keep resonating and help push them forward along their path. The Stogies’ future plans include and tours of the Maritimes, Ontario and Alberta in 2012. The band is also starting pre-production for a full length album which should be available summer 2012.
